Epees Bocal / British Bend

The BG "British Bend" (gold-plated) series features a flat bend profile, resulting in excellent airflow characteristics. The gold plating further enhances the sound quality derived from these characteristics, producing a richer, softer resonance. Additionally, the design builds upon the "Epees Bocal" series specifications while incorporating refinements to the internal bore shape to minimize the impact of areas with high curvature.
Regarding "English," "British," and "Flat" bocal bends: a shallower bend angle (θ°) allows the upper body—which supports the weight of the bassoon—to relax; the resulting drop in shoulder position helps alleviate tension and strain in the neck and arms. Furthermore, the flatter curve promotes better sound projection and improved response. This is based on the principle that a relaxed body allows for better sound vibration than a tense one. Additionally, a flat bend creates more space (ℓ) between the player's body and the instrument compared to a standard bend, making it an advantageous choice for those who find the standard positioning too cramped. We encourage you to select the "Epee British Bend" bocal that best suits your performance needs.
